How is the Coast FIRE number calculated?
The calculator follows the standard discount formula used across Coast FIRE guides.
Coast FIRE number = FIRE nest egg ÷ (1 + real return)^years left
- FIRE nest egg ≈ annual retirement spend ÷ safe withdrawal rate (often ~4%).
- Real return comes from your expected return after inflation.
- Years left = target retirement age − current age.
